Let’s look at Pak Chan, the first DIY instant yee mee in Malaysia

We have come across Malaysia’s first customized instant noodle brand Pak Chan recently and let’s have a look at what makes it different.

Pak Chan is basically seafood tomyum yee mee. Yee Mee is a flat Cantonese egg noodle made from wheat flour and is crunchy when uncooked.

What makes Pak Chan stands out from the crowded market is the ability to customise the ingredients. Consumers have up to 26 premium condiments to add to the noodle dish and they are sold separately as part of the order. All of Pak Chan condiments are freeze dried and they include soft beancurd, mushroom, corn, leek, French beans, cauliflower, cabbage, spring onion, carrot, egg cubes, lady’s finger, celery, pok choy and kelp.

You can also top up on the seasoning pack – spicy flavoured powder, sweet flavoured powder and sour flavoured powder.

Pak Chan is sold online in two versions – Classic and Premium

Classic pack: 4x Packet Yee Mee + 4x Water Measurement Tray + 4x Packet Coconut Milk + 4x packet Tom Yam Powder + 4x Packet Tom Yum Paste

Premium pack: 4x Packet Yee Mee + 4x Water Measurement Tray + 4x Packet Coconut Milk + 4x packet Tom Yam Powder + 4x Packet Tom Yum Paste + 4x Packet Mixed Freeze Dried Condiments (Prawns, Cuttlefish, Crab Stick, Spring Onions)

The flour is imported from South Korea, so the noodles are chewy, easy to cook and not soggy. The noodles are also free from borax, bleach and colouring.

Pak Chan is playing in the right space as instant noodle eaters are increasingly looking at balancing taste with health. The add-on freeze dried ingredients helps to enrich the nutritional profile and adds to the taste of the yee mee dish.
