O!Save, the hard discounter, opened in the Philippines in 2021 and has announced the opening of its 200th store. O!Save focuses on basic food, household, and personal care products, promising to offer the lowest possible price every day.

One of the recipes for success as a discounter is low prices, which can be achieved through own store brands with products sourced from the lowest-cost producers worldwide.

O!Save plans to open in Indonesia (PT. O Save Indonesia), which makes sense as both markets share a similar retail landscape. Both countries are experiencing an inroads of modern retail, but traditional trade still dominates. Alfamart, which has over 1,300 stores across Luzon, was originated from Indonesia.

In Malaysia, the success of ECO Shop has opened the floodgate to the proliferation of discounters in the country driven by consumers looking for deals amid the rising cost of living crisis.
