The edible cups are all the rage in China, and this trend is spreading to Southeast Asia. Thailand’s KCG Corporation Public Company Limited unveiled its latest Imperial Edible Cookie Cup made from the Imperial cookie recipe at THAIFEX – Anuga Asia 2024. This eco-friendly edible coffee cup eliminates the need for disposable cups.
At THAIFEX – Anuga Asia 2024, Mister Cone exhibited its latest edible cup and waffle candy cone. The company sells the edible cup in a finished format without requiring the customer to produce it on their own.
In Malaysia, China’s WhiteXtar demonstrated its edible cup machine at the International Cafe and Beverage Show 2024 in Malaysia in May 2024. Consumers can purchase the machine to produce edible oat cups anytime, anywhere. The edible cups come in different flavours and colours using the frozen dough of WhiteXtar.
Cost is always a factor to consider when adopting an edible cup. Brands may need to pass on rising costs to consumers. Making one’s own edible cup takes time, as the machine cannot produce the cups in large volumes. The edible cup may not be in the adequate size to accommodate all beverages.
When serving edible cups, the foodservice operator must also provide consumers with a paper sleeve for hygiene purposes and potentially a coaster to avoid spilling. Such a format is suitable mainly for dining in.
