Haohuanluo made its THAIFEX – Anuga Asia 2024 by introducing Thai consumers and international visitors to luosifen, or “river snail rice noodles,” a beloved street food in Liuzhou in south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
Liuzhou Luosifen, China’s newly standardised name for the regional dish, is an acquired taste. Many consumers still need to become familiar with the dish, which features rice vermicelli in a spicy broth flavoured by river snails. It is topped with pickled bamboo shoots, string beans, peanuts and fried tofu skin.
In 2023, the export value of Liuzhou Luosifen reached over RMB 100 million (USD 13.8 million) with exports reaching over 20 countries.
Haohuanluo, the Liuzhou Luosifen maker, said it will soon introduce a halal version of its noodles. In Muslim-majority markets like Malaysia, the lack of halal certification is a barrier to popularising the dish beyond the ethnic Chinese community.
