How One Woman’s Childhood Dream Built a Sanctuary for Over 1,000 Mothers
Kuala Lumpur, 4th October 2024 – The postpartum period is often a time of joy and bonding, but for many mothers, it can also bring challenges that extend far beyond sleepless nights.
In Malaysia, studies have revealed that as many as 14.29% of new mothers suffer from postpartum depression, with factors such as lack of spousal support and mood disturbances playing a major role in this mental health struggle.
Recognising a need for enhanced postpartum care and support, Little Precious Postnatal Care (LPPC), founded by award-winning architect and interior designer Katrine Cheong, serves as a sanctuary where mothers receive the support they need for recovery—both physically and emotionally.
Designed by Katrine, LPPC’s luxurious interiors have received accolades, including the prestigious MIID REKA AWARD 2021 for Design Excellence, Asia Pacific Property Award 2021 for Best in Public Service Interior, and the Aoyama Design Forum (ADF) Award Winner 2021. Every detail of the facility reflects Katrine’s background as a leading architect and designer, ensuring unparalleled comfort and serenity for all guests.
“From the moment a mother steps through our doors, she is enveloped by an environment designed to soothe and uplift,” explains Katrine Cheong, Founder of Little Precious Postnatal Care.
Katrine’s journey is as inspiring as the sanctuary she has built. At just 10 years old and facing early life challenges, she aspired to become an architect, vowing to build her dream home.
“I grew up in a small partitioned room without windows, sleeping on a simple mattress on the floor above a shop lot. While it was a challenging environment, it ignited a determination in me to create something greater—not only for myself but for others as well. Today, through LPPC, I have designed a space where mothers can experience unparalleled comfort, care, and tranquillity,” reflects Katrine.
Heavily influenced by her family’s business in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Katrine integrates holistic approaches into every aspect of LPPC. Postnatal recovery is enriched through the careful preparation of TCM-based meals. Customising each menu to suit every mother’s needs, LPPC curates the best ingredients to support faster and more effective recovery, honouring centuries of Chinese tradition.
As a mother of three herself, Katrine deeply understands the physical and emotional demands of postpartum recovery.
“I have stepped into the shoes of postpartum mothers and there is so much detail in the needs that they require. We set ourselves apart as we are customer-oriented.
“We listen and cater to each individual needs. From customised nutrition to a balance of traditional and modern physicians attending to the mothers to ensure their best recovery within this 28 days period.
“We are also highly particular about safety and have implemented strict COVID-19 testing to ensure no major infections occur. Babies are taken care of with a nurse-to-baby ratio of 1:2. This allows mothers the chance to rest and recuperate with peace of mind,” Katrine further added.
As part of its comprehensive lineup, LPPC offers personalised and specialised professional care through a team of paediatricians, traditional Chinese medicine doctors, nutritionists, physiotherapists, and lactation consultants.
LPPC offers round-the-clock care with a team of 60 members, ensuring high standards of service for both mothers and newborns. The centre also incorporates music therapy and art therapy led by a physiotherapist focused on mental health for mothers, creating a holistic approach to postpartum care.
As the postpartum care industry continues to grow, LPPC stays ahead of the curve by continually upgrading its offerings and setting new standards in the industry. By blending innovative technology such as Emsella, a non-invasive medical device designed to improve pelvic floor health—the centre aids in faster recovery, helping mothers regain confidence and strength post-childbirth.
Since opening its doors during the height of the pandemic in 2020, LPPC has become a trusted sanctuary for over 1,000 mothers seeking exceptional postnatal care and support. LPPC is a beacon of luxurious comfort, cutting-edge technology, and traditional wisdom, setting a new standard in postpartum recovery.
