Vietnam’s dairy giant Vinamilk has launched its first very own milk tea drink called Happy in June 2019. Milk tea has become extremely popular across Southeast Asia including in Vietnam, a country with 2,000 milk tea outlets in 2018 alone. The rising popularity of milk tea is seen to impact other beverage categories including milk, which is also an ingredient in milk tea.
Vinamilk’s Happy is a milk tea with low sugar made from black tea from Lam Dong plateau and fresh milk. The drink comes in a portable 300ml PET bottle (VND 17,000) and 180ml carton (VND 30,448 for 4x180ml).
Other notable milk tea launches in Vietnam lately include Nestea Milk Tea Tiramisu (2019), Nestea Original Flavoured Milk Tea (2018) and C2 Milk Tea (2018). Philippines-based Universal Robina Corp (URC) said in its Q4 2018 earnings call in February 2019 that its C2 milk tea in plastic bottle is “performing very, very encouragingly in its launch months.”
