The much-talked about faux meat Beyond Meat has arrived in Malaysia without much funfair. In Thailand, there was a big launch event in 2019 to coincide with the vegan month in October.
In Malaysia, Village Grocer said on its official Facebook site on 20 December 2019 that it has started selling the new plant-based meat alternative Beyond Meat. Interestingly, Village Grocer did not mention or respond to the comment about the price of the Beyond Meat when asked by some curious netizens.
Beyond Meat is also available at another premium supermarket chain Jaya Grocer and can be bought on the chain’s e-commerce site. Below are the prices of Beyond Meat:

- Beyond Meat Beyond Beef Crumbles Beefy (283g) – RM 39.90
- Beyond Meat Beyond Beef Crumbles Feisty (283g) – RM 39.90
Getting consumers on the plant-based meat bandwagon does require additional push from the foodservice sector. In Singapore, Beyond Meat is promoted at selected foodservice establishments to create awareness and interest before the patty or sausage is made available at supermarket for home use. A similar strategy can be adopted in Malaysia.
