Mr Sarmento Makarena is the new snack in Indonesia that comes in two flavours: Sambel Limau Meksiko (Mexican Lime Sambal) and Ayam Bara Meksiko (Mexican Grilled Chicken).
Mr Sarmento is a sarsaparilla candy popular in Indonesia during the 1990s. The brand was revived in 2022 as part of a collaboration with another candy brand, HEXOS, by Konimex, in the form of Sarsaparilla Mint Candy Nostalgia Edition.
Now Mr Sarmento is back as a snack, tapping into its iconic Mexican image to reconnect with consumers who know the brand and younger consumers, especially the gaming community, through a collaboration with Free Fire.
Mr Sarmento Makarena is made by Indonesia’s PT Manohara Asri, known for its Mayasi Japanese nut snacks and crispy crepes. It is sold on the Konimex Official Store.
