Pos Malaysia Berhad (“Pos Malaysia”), the national post and parcel service provider invites Malaysian students aged 9-15 years to participate in the 54th International Letter-Writing Competition for Young People 2025 by the Universal Postal Union (UPU). This year’s theme, “Imagine you are the ocean. Write a letter to someone explaining why and how they should take good care of you,” encourages young minds to reflect on the beauty and challenges of our oceans while highlighting the importance of marine conservation.
The competition aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14—protecting oceans and marine life. It is organised by the UPU in collaboration with key partners, including the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), all of whom work to promote literacy, communication, and environmental awareness.
Young participants are invited to give voice to the ocean, exploring its beauty, challenges, and the need for conservation. Through their letters, they will reflect on their role in building a sustainable future and the global importance of marine ecosystems.
This competition not only aims to raise awareness about the critical role postal services play in society but also nurtures students’ writing skills, encourages clear expression of thoughts, and fosters a love for letter-writing while promoting international friendship
The judging criteria for the competition include assessing the structure as a letter, adherence to the theme, creativity, and the use of language. Participants will stand a chance to win cash prizes and the chance to represent Malaysia in the international competition. The prizes consist of:

Grand Prize x 1: RM1,000 & Certificate
1st Runner Up x 1: RM300 & Certificate
2nd Runner Up x 1: RM200 & Certificate
Consolation Prizes x 2: RM100 each & Certificate
School
Certificate of Excellence for School with the Highest Number of Entries
The Grand Prize winner will represent Malaysia in the 54th International Letter-Writing Competition for Young People 2025.
Submission Instructions – How to Join in 3 Easy Steps:
Step 1: Register by scanning the QR code
Scan the QR code on the poster or visit https://forms.gle/QprZhLNBGRQW8d539 to register for the competition and print out the completed form.
Step 2: Write your letter
Write a letter based on the theme: “Imagine you are the ocean. Write a letter to someone explaining why and how they should take good care of you.” Feel free to include drawings or illustrations to make your entry stand out! Letters must not exceed 800 words.
Step 3: Submit your letter
Submit your letter and completed form to the address below before 14 April 2025:
