Iman Troye Drops New Song, ‘Teman Malam’ On Faithful, Night-Long Companionship At Kotex’s Latest Innovation Showcase

Debut of Teman Malam by Iman Troye at the launch of the all-new Kotex Total Protection

Sings about Kotex Total Protection’s 100% protection against back leaks

Kuala Lumpur, 25 July 2024 – Iman Troye swooned media with her vocals for her new song Teman Malam, an original composed in partnership with leading sanitary pad brand, Kotex as part of its latest innovation on the Total Protection range. Singing live at the launch ceremony of the all-new Kotex Total Protection held at Sunway Velocity, the Malaysian sweetheart also revealed how the brand had a cheeky brief to position Teman Malam as a response to her popular 2020 hit Teman.

“Yes, you guessed it right! It’s a play on my previous song Teman and the Kotex Total Protection range is the answer for the faithful companionship, all night-long, that I and all women need. After all, we know the hassle of experiencing a leak and it’s even worse if our pad leaks when we are asleep. It doesn’t just affect the quality of our rest, but we will also then need to wash the sheets, scrub our clothes and that’s ifa our mattress and bolster aren’t stained! Our entire day will be affected and yet, we will still have to push ourselves to perform our best for the rest of the day. Hence, I believe this innovation will be a gamechanger for the period care industry as it solves a great need for us women” expressed the visibly animated Iman.

Santai & Sembang Session hosted by Fiza Saad (Fiza Frizzy) with Iman Troye and Ngui Siew Ching, Marketing Manager of Kotex Malaysia

“Teman Malam is therefore dedicated to every girl who pursues her dreams while managing daily challenges, including period anxiety. I am confident everyone can relate to this song. As someone who relies on Kotex pads myself, I am particularly excited by this innovation. In fact, I already have my supply of the new Kotex Total Protection which has become my nighttime best friend which I trust for a good night’s sleep,” added Iman.

Michelle Chin, Brand Manager for Kotex Malaysia, in her launching speech divulged the secret behind the innovation. “Our consumer insights revealed that no period or back leak during the night remains the Number 1 priority for women during their period. Further, we consulted with medical experts on the importance of sleep and learned that sleep plays a crucial role in managing premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and periods because it stabilises our hormones. Hence, we knew this was something to solve for and after much research, our innovation team designed the Anti-Leak Back Cushion technology that serves a guard to curb back leaks. It is lab-tested and proven to provide up to 100% protection against back leaks.”

A live demonstration of the product’s performance was conducted on stage as a proof of the brand’s claim which elicited ooh and aah from the public.

With an innovation this groundbreaking, Michelle explained that the brand wanted a big name like Iman Troye to partner with. “As you can see, we have gone big, and we have gone bold with the new Kotex Total Protection! Besides the big innovation, we have boldly partnered with Iman Troye for our first-ever and exclusive ‘period song’. The song has a catchy beat and coupled with Iman’s great vocals, it has had me listening on repeat. More importantly, this effort is also in line with our continued measure to destigmatize periods. As a brand, we believe that an empowered woman will never be held back by her period and it starts first by being able to speak or now, sing about it openly! Further, we have this massive set up that has transformed the Sunway Velocity concourse into a Kotex Dreamland.”

The #KotexDreamland Experience

Kotex Total Protection Launch at Sunway Velocity Mall featuring the #KotexDreamland Giant Cloud Slide, #DreamRoomMakeover by Atap.co and more fun activities

Highlights included a giant inflatable cloud slide that evoked the cozy, dreamlike sensation of a good night’s sleep without back leaks. Besides a hands-on experience with the revolutionary Anti-Leak Back Cushion technology, visitors also stand the chance to win amazing prizes.

Kotex Total Protection Pack Shot

On top of that, from 25th July to 31st August 2024, all purchases amounting to RM25 of any Kotex products in a single receipt (purchase must include at least 1 pack of Kotex Total Protection) at the concourse or from any Watsons retail stores within Klang Valley will be entitled to the Kotex #DreamRoomMakeover contest where the lucky winner will receive a bedroom makeover by Atap.Co worth RM20,000! (Terms & Conditions Apply)

For every purchase of Kotex Total Protection made at the Kotex Dreamland, Kotex will donate a pack of Kotex pads to Women’s Aid Organization.

“We do not just claim to be fight period stigma and poverty. We take action and this donation is just one of the many examples of how Kotex is championing the rights of Malaysian women by caring for them in a direct way. In fact, we are also very proud that our collective efforts were recently recognized at the Sustainability & CSR Awards 2024 where we were crowned Company of the year (FMCG) – Best in promoting women’s health,” concluded Michelle.

90 DAY CHALLENGE TO COMBAT SEDENTARY LIFESTYLE

Evolution Wellness’ Breakthru Challenge to reward health transformation

KUALA LUMPUR, 30 July– Evolution Wellness, Asia’s leading health club operator whose portfolio of brands includes Celebrity Fitness and Fitness First, proudly announced the launch of its “Breakthru Challenge” aimed at motivating and assisting Malaysians to achieve a fitter and healthier lifestyle that would help them become the best version of themselves.

CEO of Evolution Wellness, David Prosser, urges Malaysians to utilise the government’s tax relief, take on the 90 Day Challenge, and achieve a breakthrough in their lifestyle.

“At Evolution Wellness, our constant pursuit is to help individuals improve their personal health, fitness, and lifestyle.  We work continuously to help and encourage Malaysians to lead an active and healthy lifestyle, understanding the challenges that work and home life poses” said David Prosser, CEO of Evolution Wellness.

“As it is aptly named, we see this ‘Breakthru Challenge’ as an opportunity for Malaysians to push themselves, taking a renewed step and achieving a breakthrough in improving their physical and mental wellbeing” he added.

The Breakthru Challenge is a 90-day nationwide fitness challenge led by top fitness experts from Celebrity Fitness and Fitness First. Open to all members of the public above the age of 14, upon registering for the challenge, a participant’s physical data (body fat percentage, BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) and weight)) will be taken for benchmarking, before they embark on the 90-day fitness journey. Participants will exercise and workout to their own limits (with or without a personal trainer) and will have to submit their body assessment (body fat %, BMR and weight) every 30 days via a mobile app.  At the end of the 90-days, based on the results, participants that experienced the biggest transformation, in terms of physical health and fitness, stand to win prizes.

Evolution Wellness CEO, David Prosser observing his progress with a Personal Trainer on the Fitness First MyCoach app

Prosser explained that the “Breakthru Challenge” was conceptualised knowing that health literacy and healthy living amongst Malaysians needs to be improved.  Reports in the last year have highlighted that 53 percent of Malaysians who have undergone health screening are overweight or obese, and more Malaysians under 40 years old are dying from cardiac arrest or stroke.  He also shared that a survey study published by the Malaysian Journal of Medical and Health Sciences in 2020 highlighted that many Malaysians live a sedentary lifestyle, with many incorrectly perceiving that they are physically active.  This misperception is indeed worrying.

“In the last 3 years, the Malaysian government has taken steps in trying to improve on this.  But beyond raising public awareness, they have also taken measures to encourage individuals to take proactive steps in living a more active and healthier lifestyle.  Most recently, in April, the Minister of Youth and Sports announced that sports training, including gym memberships, will be eligible for tax relief in the coming year, 2025” he said.

Prosser hopes that Malaysians do not only merely see this as a potential financial relief, but they will grasp the opportunity to improve their health and wellness.  It is an ideal chance to achieve a breakthrough in their wellbeing, something that they may have long intended but never attempted, such that they can live a happier and healthier life.

Unlike other fitness challenges, a participant’s progress in the Breakthru Challenge will be tracked via a mobile app.  Evolution Wellness’ MyCoach and MyTrainer app will allow personal trainers to monitor and analyse their performance, helping them personalise their training plan, as well as provide necessary advice and encouragement to assist participants in realising their fitness goals.  This is to ensure that participants truly benefit from achieving their full potential, becoming fitter, stronger and more energized, leading to a better quality of life.

As an added incentive to participants, Breakthru Challenge winners stand a chance to win an assortment of prizes including Lush Protein nutritional supplements, Li-Ning sports merchandise, Garmin VĂvoactive 5 GPS Fitness Tracking Smart Watch, Beoka Mini Massage Gun, or an all-expenses paid Bali holiday for 2 worth RM20,000.

“Living a fit and healthy lifestyle is easier said than done, and many Malaysians struggle with starting on that journey, or for that matter, keeping up with it.  Knowing this struggle, we hope that this challenge will provide them extra motivation and incentive to push on and achieve a breakthrough with their current mental and physical plateaus” David Prosser said.

CULTIVATING KINDNESS: EDUCATION’S ROLE TO COMBAT BULLYING AND BUILD POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS

Bullying is a widespread issue, affecting children not just at school or on playgrounds, but also on the digital realm. Since the pandemic, online bullying has also increased significantly, taking on a more insidious form, lurking anonymously in chats and social media posts, while spreading venomous and hurtful messages.

Alarmingly, bullying shows no signs of stopping, with school incidents rising to 4,994 cases in 2023, compared to 3,887 cases from the previous year, based on MoE’s Sistem Sahsiah Diri Murid (SSDM) statistics.

The consequences of bullying are long-lasting, impacting a student’s self-esteem, academic performance, and overall well-being even long after the incidents has ended. To effectively address bullying, it is crucial to understand it’s root cause. During the formative years, young individuals are shaped by various internal and external factors that can lead them to act out of character. Factors such as insecurities, exposure to violence, and social pressure can lead young people to bully others as a way to gain power or acceptance.

The Crucial Role of School in Fostering Understanding and Curbing Bullying

Schools are uniquely positioned to combat bullying and play a pivotal role in shaping young minds, through programmes that promote empathy, respect, compassion, and kindness. By promoting understanding and appreciation of diversity, schools can reduce bullying incidents. Resources like counselling and peer support groups provide students with guidance they need to navigate social challenges and build healthy relationships.

Humanistic Learning Model : Social-Emotional and Dialogic Learning

An effective approach is the Humanistic Learning Model, which encourages students to practise values that transform negative behaviour. This model not only fosters personal growth, change, and transformation, but also guides individuals to become better versions of themselves.

Dialogic Learning

Furthermore, the social-emotional and dialogic learning approach reduces bullying by cultivating mutual respect and appreciation. This method integrates mindfulness, stress management, and healthy lifestyle habits into the school curriculum, enhancing students’ overall well-being and focusing on personal growth instead of bullying behaviours.

Making a Difference at Soka International School Malaysia (SISM)

SISM emphasises a humanistic learning approach to create an engaging and inspiring learning environment for students. “At SISM, students are provided with a meaningful environment that helps them become the best versions of themselves. The learning methods at SISM are tailored for individual needs, interests, and learning styles while being surrounded in a safe space for development, to help students thrive. Additionally, SISM has also partnered with private counsellors to provide students guidance on sensitive topics, amongst which includes bullying,” said Dr. Wendy Yee, Principal of the Soka International School Malaysia

The Importance of Support

In a boarding school setting, the impact of bullying can be significantly magnified. Chin Lek Sin, SISM’s school counsellor stresses the importance of vigilance among teachers and parents to recognise bullying. She advises, “Open conversations with the child are crucial to understanding the issue and guiding them on how to handle it is imperative. Trusted adults play a significant role in providing support, whether it’s through teaching children to ignore verbal bullies, reporting incidents to teachers, or discussing the issue with a counsellor.”

Chin also highlights the role of teachers in fostering a positive learning atmosphere, “Encouraging pupils to manage their emotions, stay calm, actively listen, and communicate clearly helps them handle conflicts effectively. Recognising and praising positive behaviour is more motivating than punishment and helps establish clear expectations. This approach not only aims to stop bullying but also enhances pupils’ communication skills and self-esteem, ultimately shaping them into confident and capable future leaders.”

A Student’s Journey of Transformation

Yooki YEAP, a 12-year-old student, shared her journey of overcoming bullying. “My time at SISM has been pivotal in reshaping my outlook. Before SISM, I faced frequent bullying and struggled with my introverted nature, keeping me from forming meaningful friendships.  However, I was greeted by a culture of warmth and inclusivity with support from teachers and friends, my confidence and a real sense of belonging have significantly improved in this holistic environment. Committed to pushing beyond my comfort zone, I actively engaged with others, even through awkward encounters, and have since made some very close friends. My relationships with classmates and teachers have flourished. I’ve learned the invaluable lesson of trusting others with my vulnerabilities. Through this journey, I’ve come to understand that education transcends mere academics—it’s about acquiring knowledge that moulds our character and equips us for lifelong learning and the pursuit of our dreams.”

Building a Compassionate Community

When schools implement humanistic learning approach, they can cultivate students that thrives beyond academics. These students develop the emotional intelligence required to navigate social situations and advocacy among themselves and peers, creating a supportive environment where everyone feels valued and respected.
