Bringing the PUBGM experience from virtual to reality: Mountain Dew’s Dew Challenge returns in collaboration with mobile gaming giant, PUBG

This year’s Dew Challenge pushes boundaries once again by bridging virtual and reality bringing an immersive and unique experience to the youth, at the same time promoting vibrant, active lifestyles.

1st OCTOBER 2023, Kuala Lumpur – In yet another ground-breaking collaboration with PUBG, this year’s Dew Challenge goes national, merging the best of both worlds; virtual and reality, in one of the largest scale PUBG themed paintball tournament, bringing all the elements players know and love in-game to real life. Aimed at catching the hearts of sporty, adventurous youths and aspiring PUBG players, everyone can expect an immersive gaming experience packed with new and fresh ideas.

Starting 1st October, interested participants can purchase a 400ml bottle of Mountain Dew, head to the Dew Challenge website at dewchallenge.com and key in the unique code located under the bottle cap to complete their registration and redeem prizes, including but not limited to UC Coins, in-game items, merchandise, and partner vouchers. Each bottle redemption gives out a random number of Dew Coins which contribute to the regional live leader board rankings. The top players from each leader board are given priority to join the exciting and engaging, adrenaline-packed round of regionals spanning 4 regions across Malaysia: North, South, Central, and East Malaysia this November.

The launch will be accompanied by a treasure hunt, drawing inspiration from in-game mechanics. Just like how players parachute onto their desired drop zones on a map, the treasure hunt will begin with participants choosing the region where their journey begins. Likewise, just as players scavenge for weapons, armour and supplies from a loot box at the beginning of a game, participants will scavenge for loot boxes that lead to extra leader board points and more before the tournament.

The loot boxes are replenished daily and/or in different time intervals throughout the day at partner outlets such as MBO Cinemas, Morac Go Kart, Chicago Chicken City, Taco Bell and Dominos across the country. Participants will receive notifications from the Dew Challenge website on loot box location sightings, where they can scan the QR code on the virtual loot boxes and redeem prizes to bolster their leader board standings.

For those in Klang Valley, a special Dew Challenge roving truck will be bringing the excitement to you at various locations including universities, partner outlets, night markets, commercial shopping spots and more. To redeem exclusive merchandise and sampling products, visitors can take part in a number of PUBG inspired activities including, a special Mountain Dew x PUBG vending machine, an immersive shooting gallery and the gaming jam session, where further prizes are up for grabs.

Additionally, as the official mobile sponsor for this year’s Dew Challenge, HONOR Malaysia will be sponsoring 110 amazing prizes for participants, making this the first brand collaboration for the new release.

Speaking on the collaboration, Etika’s Vice President of Marketing, Amy Gan, said, “We are especially excited for this instalment of the Dew Challenge. It truly is representative of Mountain Dew’s commitment to our consumers who seek to live life authentically. With the pandemic chapter closed, we can now bring the virtual to reality in a one-of-a-kind experience for Malaysians who are ready to break out of the norm and try something new. We want people to push their boundaries and live their best, most vibrant lives.”

She added, “It’s the first time a brand has done something of this scale and it is only possible because we have such an amazing team and partners, especially PUBG, who share our vision and believe in this idea as much as we do. We would like to encourage everyone to join, gamer or not, and be a part of this historic journey with us.”

The registration period, treasure hunt and roving truck will run throughout 1st – 31st October, followed by regionals taking place in November and the Grand Finale in December with more details to come. PERTAMA DIGITAL’S KOCEK SERVICE NOW AT POS MALAYSIA

(from left): Abdul Rahman Bin Abu Bakar, Assistant Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia, Datuk Ahmad Nazri Abdullah, Chairman of Pertama Digital, Datuk Seri Ahmad Bin Maslan, Deputy Finance Minister 1, Tan Sri Syed Faisal Albar, Chairman of Pos Malaysia Berhad and Charles Brewer, Group Chief Executive Officer of Pos Malaysia Berhad

Introduction of Coin Conversion service throughout Pos Malaysia branches nationwide

KUALA LUMPUR, 17 OCTOBER 2023 – Pertama Digital Berhad (“Pertama Digital” or “the Company”) announced today the launch of the KOCEK Coin Conversion Service (KOCEK). The Company is expanding KOCEK services in collaboration with Pos Malaysia Berhad (“Pos Malaysia”). This strategic partnership enables KOCEK to offer its innovative coin conversion services at Pos Malaysia branches throughout Malaysia. Currently available at four locations in the Klang Valley, the service is expected to expand to about 30 branches by the end of 2023. The KOCEK services will be proliferated to other states in stages in 2024, with plans to launch 100 locations.

The launch event, graced by YB Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, Deputy Minister of Finance 1 who delivered the speech by YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Bin Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, and Encik Abd. Rahman Bin Abu Bakar, Assistant Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia, signifies the significance of this collaboration in revolutionising coin conversion as part of improving the currency circulation and providing convenience to the Rakyat. Representing Pos Malaysia was its Chairman, Y.Bhg. Tan Sri Syed Faisal Albar Syed A.R. Albar and Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Charles Brewer.

The innovative KOCEK services was initiated by Pertama Digital to invigorate the recirculation of unused coins among Malaysians. Annually, a significant amount of coins issued by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) are not returned for re-circulation, with the estimate of up to 30% or more than 200 million pieces of coins issued every year ends up being kept unused at home, in jars and drawers, as “dead coins”. KOCEK provides an easy access and fast service to help the Rakyat to convert their collection of unused coins into digital cash value, transferred to their bank accounts. This will in return, reduce the need to mint and distribute new coins and help lower the cost of issuing currency for the central bank.

KOCEK, previously known as MyPay Coin Conversion, offers a seamless solution for individuals to exchange their unused coins into digital cash value in their bank accounts. Additionally, merchants and traders can purchase coins for their business needs, addressing the pain-points of both consumers and businesses and enhancing their spending powers.

Chairman of Pertama Digital, Y.Bhg. Datuk Ahmad Nazri Abdullah, expressed his pride in the collaboration with Pos Malaysia, stating, “We are delighted to make our KOCEK product and service easily available to the Rakyat through Pos Malaysia’s extensive network. With their presence in major towns and rural areas, KOCEK can reach more people rapidly and efficiently. In today’s economic environment, every sen counts, and KOCEK aims to generate additional income for everyone.”

Charles Brewer, Group Chief Executive Officer of Pos Malaysia Berhad, added, “We are delighted to join hands with KOCEK. Designed with paramount convenience in mind, KOCEK harmonises seamlessly with Pos Malaysia’s ethos – we are passionate about building trust to connect lives and businesses for a better tomorrow. The introduction of KOCEK service at Pos Malaysia branches is a true testament to our pledge to offer seamless solutions for the everyday needs of our community. KOCEK represents more than mere convenience—it embodies Pos Malaysia’s values of constantly driving innovation and delighting our customers.”

Through this partnership, Pertama Digital will have access to Pos Malaysia branches nationwide, providing KOCEK coin conversion service (KOCEK IN) and coin purchase convenience (KOCEK OUT) for businesses and traders. The KOCEK service is available through the Company’s MyPay application, which enables seamless communication with selected government agencies. Pertama Digital plans to roll out the KOCEK service aggressively across Malaysia in the near future.

“We are grateful to Pos Malaysia for this collaboration, and we believe it will be a win-win
situation for all stakeholders involved. Our ultimate goal is to digitise and reach as many people as possible, and Pos Malaysia branches perfectly complement our efforts. With KOCEK, individuals can effortlessly convert their spare coins into enhanced spending power,” concluded Datuk Ahmad Nazri.

KOCEK is currently operational at three major locations in the Klang Valley, including Subang Parade, Berjaya Times Square and NSK Trade City in Kuchai Lama, in addition to four Pos Malaysia branches, namely Pejabat Pos Besar Kuala Lumpur, Pejabat Pos Besar Shah Alam, Pejabat Pos Kajang 2020 and Pejabat Pos Bandar Baru Bangi.
